The National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC) joined other public institutions in commemorating the two-day Africa Public Service Day 2026 celebrations, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening Kenya’s multisectoral response to HIV and other syndemic diseases.
Held under the theme, “Enhancing Public Sector Institutions and Empowering Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships to Achieve Universal Water Availability and Safe Sanitation by 2063,” the event highlighted the critical role of effective public institutions and partnerships in improving health and social outcomes across the continent.
Throughout the two-day exhibition, NSDCC engaged members of the public through health education sessions, raising awareness on HIV prevention and the Triple Threat of new HIV infections, adolescent pregnancies, and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) among adolescents and young people. The engagement also showcased the Council’s mandate of coordinating a multisectoral response that addresses the social and structural drivers of HIV and related health challenges.
The awareness campaign comes at a time when young people aged 15–24 continue to bear a disproportionate burden of new HIV infections, accounting for an estimated 41 per cent of new adult HIV infections in Kenya. The discussions underscored the importance of equipping young people with accurate information, expanding access to prevention services, and strengthening community support systems to reduce new infections.
In addition to health education, NSDCC facilitated integrated health services, including HIV Testing Services (HTS), diabetes screening, and general health and wellness checks, enabling members of the public to access essential preventive services during the celebrations.
The Council noted that ending HIV as a public health threat requires sustained collaboration between government institutions, county governments, communities, development partners, civil society, the private sector, and young people themselves. Through coordinated action and strengthened partnerships, Kenya continues to advance towards improved health outcomes and the goal of leaving no one behind.
