The National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC) Board, led by Chairperson Hon. Ahmed Abass, held a strategic engagement in Samburu County to strengthen county and community action against the Triple Threat of new HIV infections, adolescent pregnancies and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
The Board met county leadership before participating in a Triple Threat Dialogue in Kisima Town, convened in partnership with Samburu County Woman Representative Hon. Pauline Lenguris. The forum brought together more than 1,000 women opinion leaders to discuss practical community-led approaches to protecting adolescents and young people from the Triple Threat.
The engagement highlighted the critical role of community leaders in shaping social norms, promoting access to health and protection services, and mobilising families to support adolescents in making informed decisions. It also reinforced the need for sustained collaboration between national and county governments, communities and elected leaders to tackle the social and structural factors driving the Triple Threat.
Present at the dialogue were NSDCC Director Tom Okundi, Samburu Senator Hon. Steve Lelegwe Ltumbesi, Samburu East MP Hon. Jackson Lekumontare and other county leaders, reaffirming a shared commitment to coordinated action that improves health outcomes for adolescents and young people in Samburu.
