NSDCC Chief Executive Officer Douglas O. Bosire hosted the National Empowerment Network of People Living with HIV and AIDS in Kenya (NEPHAK) Board, led by Board Chair Mr. Jectone Chilo and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Nelson Otuoma, for a strategic engagement focused on strengthening collaboration in Kenya’s HIV response.
The discussions centred on enhancing the role of communities in shaping policies, expanding access to integrated HIV services and improving accountability through joint monitoring of the national response. NEPHAK reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with NSDCC to strengthen HIV awareness, generate community-led evidence and support the development of responsive policies that reflect the realities and needs of people affected by HIV.
The engagement recognised that ending AIDS cannot be achieved through health systems alone. Communities remain the first point of support, helping to reduce stigma, encourage HIV testing and treatment, promote adherence to care and ensure that services reach populations most at risk. Their lived experiences also provide critical insights that inform policies and programmes, making the national response more inclusive, effective and sustainable.
By strengthening collaboration between government and community networks, NSDCC and NEPHAK are reinforcing a people-centred response where evidence, accountability and community leadership drive progress towards ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
