The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Health chaired by Hon. (Dr.) James Nyikal, MP, visited the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC) for a briefing on Kenya’s coordinated response to HIV and other syndemic diseases. The Committee was received by NSDCC Board Chairman Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, Board Member Tom Okundi, Chief Executive Officer Douglas O. Bosire, and the Council’s Management Team.

Further, the Members of Parliament reviewed progress in the national response and discussed strategies for strengthening domestic resource mobilization, integrating HIV, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, mental health, substance use disorders and non-communicable diseases, and advancing the legislative, policy and budgetary measures needed to sustain the response amid declining external funding.

The engagement reaffirmed the critical role of parliamentary oversight and collaboration in sustaining the gains made in Kenya’s HIV response and accelerating progress towards ending HIV and other syndemic diseases as public health threats by 2030.
