The National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC), in partnership with the County Government of Homa Bay, participated in the 3rd Edition of the Governorโ€™s Girls Mentorship Camp, bringing together over 4,000 school-going girls for mentorship and empowerment.

The event was attended by Amb. Susan Nakhumicha Wafula, Permanent Representative to UN-Habitat, Homa Bay Governor H.E. Gladys Wanga, county leaders, teachers, mentors and parents.

Representing the NSDCC CEO, Stephen Oyugi highlighted the continued impact of the triple threat of new HIV infections, adolescent pregnancies and sexual and gender-based violence among adolescent girls and young women. He noted that young women aged 15โ€“24 years accounted for 32 per cent of adult new HIV infections nationally in 2024, while Homa Bay County recorded 7,773 adolescent pregnancies among girls aged 10โ€“19 years through first ANC visits in 2025.
