Meru County, in partnership with the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC), is enhancing efforts to combat Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and other harmful cultural practices contributing to teenage pregnancies and the rise in HIV infections.
During a forum marking the International Day of Zero Tolerance to FGM, County Public Health Director Justin Thuranira emphasized the urgent need for stronger collaboration between NSDCC and county health officials. He highlighted the impact of FGM on adolescent health and the importance of coordinated interventions to address these challenges effectively.
The event brought together key leaders, including Meru Governor Hon. Kawira Mwangaza and the Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders, who reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at eliminating FGM and promoting community health. Their collective efforts seek to drive awareness, strengthen policies, and ensure the protection and well-being of young girls in the region.
