The National Syndemic Diseases Control Council in partnership with the Samburu Women Representative, Hon. Lenguris Pauline today organised the Wezesha Mama Inua Jamii, Samburu East Chapter at Allamano Grounds in Wamba. The forum gave NSDCC an opportunity to speak on how to end the Triple Threatโ€”new HIV infections, gender-based violence, and adolescent pregnancies.

Over 750 grassroot women and youth drawn from Samburu East Sub-County were in attendance, where Mr. Wario Boru, Principal Programme Officer for NSDCC in the Samburu and Laikipia region, shared worrying statistics. He revealed that Samburu County currently has 3,755 people living with HIV and cautioned about the high rate of mother-to-child transmission, noting that the county leads nationally at 26.8%.

Mr. Boru also challenged the participants to register for the Social Health Authority since the uptake of SHA is slow in the Sub-County.

Hon. Lenguris was joined by fellow women representatives from Nairobi, Taita Taveta, Murangโ€™a, Lamu, Kwale, Baringo, Vihiga and Kajiado counties. Also present was Samburu Senator Steve Lelegwe.

Wezesha Mama Inua Jamii is under the patronage of H.E. President William Ruto.
